There's a new scam doing the rounds, and this one is more convincing than most.
It looks like a genuine alert from Microsoft Azure Monitor.
It comes from a real Microsoft domain and lands in your inbox without being flagged as suspicious.
That's why it's catching people out.
Azure Monitor is used by businesses to track system performance, spot issues, and send alerts when something needs attention.
So if you use Microsoft Azure, these notifications can feel completely normal.
An email warning about a billing issue, suspicious activity, or account problem might not immediately seem unusual.
And that's where the scam works.
These emails are designed to create urgency.
They may mention unexpected charges, unknown invoices, or even claim your account has been suspended.
Then they push you to act quickly, often by calling a phone number to "resolve" the issue.
The worrying part is that the email can be genuinely sent through Azure Monitor.
It's not spoofed in the usual way.
Attackers are using Microsoft's own system to deliver the message, which means many email security tools let it through.
Azure Monitor lets users create alerts based on triggers, such as new invoices or account activity.
Whoever creates the alert can customize the message that gets sent.
Attackers abuse this by setting up basic alerts, writing their own warning message, and sending it to mailing lists they control.
The result is a legitimate-looking email that feels trustworthy.
We've seen similar tactics with platforms like PayPal and Google.
The pattern is simple: use a trusted service to deliver the scam.
If you receive one of these alerts, pause.
That's the key step.
If an email pressures you to act urgently, especially by calling a number or sharing information, verify it first.
Go directly to your Azure account through your browser, not through links in the email, and check for alerts there.
If there's a real issue, it should appear inside your account.
And if you're unsure, ask your IT support provider to check before taking action.
Phishing has moved beyond badly written emails and obvious mistakes.
Some messages are polished, well-timed, and delivered through trusted systems.
Awareness matters more than ever.
